Getting Started

Make a plan and organize your photos.

What to look for when choosing photos: Choose quality photos that will look great in your DVD. Photos that have been cut will not work well in a DVD Montage. Photos that are horizontally oriented (landscape) look better on screen than photos that are vertically oriented (portrait). If two photos are similar, consider eliminating one of them. Try to include about 4 to 5  pictures for each time period. Everyone loves to see themselves on the big screen. Make sure you don't forget Aunt Bea, people always look to see if they made the cut.

  • Make sure your photos are put in the sequence you want them to appear in the DVD. You may want to organize your photos along a time line: Early childhood, Just married, Our children, Being grandparents, etc. Number and label each photo. Start with number "1" and count upwards.  If you plan to include digital photos, it is best to simply change the name of the file to be the number of the photo itself. (For example: 01. jpg, 02.jpg, 03.jpg, etc.)

Video is so important when making a montage. It brings everything to life, even if it's a 10 second clip. To hear the voice and laughter of a loved one is priceless. Clips can be e-mailed to [email protected]
